The Christmas Cottage by Sarah Morgan

In my opinion...

After a recent diet of psychological thrillers, mixed in with some experimental works & an historical novel, it was an absolute delight to be given the opportunity to review Sarah Morgan's latest book.

I loved The Christmas Book Club last year, so my expectations were high. I didn't need to be concerned- I raced through the book, even putting in a 2am in the morning session to find out what choices the lovely Imogen decided to make.

It is very much a lovely story just right for curling up in front of the fire with a mince pie, ticking every box for an escapist Christmas book that you'd hope to find in your stocking:

Snow-tick

Inspirational food-tick

Handsome love interest-tick

Animals ( well, I like them!)- tick

But even though it is a romantic feel-good story, the characterisation is strong, with very credible characters, and I found the end of the book moving.

Published on 24th October.

Will this Christmas finally bring comfort and joy?

A PAINFUL SECRET

Imogen loves her job as an events organiser, and her colleagues are in awe of her. But Imogen isn’t the person she pretends to be, and she’s hiding painful truths about her past. But as long as she can keep on top of her work, Imogen can put everything else to one side.

AN ACT OF KINDNESS

And then Imogen makes a catastrophic mistake at work, and finally realises it's time to reset. When her favourite client, Dorothy, invites her to spend Christmas with her and her family, in her cottage in the Cotswolds, it sounds like the perfect way for Imogen to take stock.

FINDING HAPPINESS AT CHRISTMAS

Imogen soon settles into idyllic cottage life, especially with the prospect of a new romance on the horizon … but when long-buried secrets and unwanted faces from the past resurface, Imogen’s new peace is threatened. Will Imogen end up alone this Christmas, or can she find it in her heart to forgive and move on?

My rating...

Obviously a great big mulled wine 5 glasses, it made me laugh, cry & look forward to Christmas.

Thank you HQ Stories for inviting me to read this novel.
